FFG - Guided Missile Frigates

i served anchor.jpg

FFG's are smaller ships than destroyers. They are designed primarily to protect other ships (such as merchant convoys), and perform some Anti-Submarine Warfare duties. They are cheaper but of more limited capability than destroyers. The last active class of frigates in the US Navy was the Oliver Hazard Perry class, decommissioned in September 2015, leaving the navy no active frigates.

On January 15, 2015 U.S. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced that ships of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) classes built in the future

would be re-classified as "frigates".

On April 30, 2020, the US Navy awarded a contract to design and produce the next generation small surface combatant, the Guided Missile Frigate (FFG(X)).  The FFG(X) will have multi-mission capability to conduct air warfare, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare,

electronic warfare, and information operations.

Thank you for getting this picture to me so quickly. I love how it looks. My husband saw this and asked me to order it for him. So I ordered it for him for a present and he is going to love it. This is the second shipped he served on while being in the Navy. He is a retired Navy Chief and served 24 years in the Navy. This picture is going to mean a lot to him. Thank you again for offering such a great picture like this.

Awesome service! My original order was damaged in shipping, and John answered immediately, and replaced the damaged photo. I couldn’t be happier with the service or the photo. Many thanks!
