Grandpa's Place

In 1889, H.L. Harms built this saloon a block North of Glenview Road.

Leo N. Lang bought the tavern in 1902. When Lang was struck and killed by a train, his family carried on for a time. Later the Rugen family operated Grandpa's for over 50 years.

It's colorful past includes a period when the upstairs was a popular gambling parlor with its elaborate telephone system enabling it to function as the area's major bookie joint.

Purchased by the Middleton family in 2003, Grandpa's offers cold beer and cocktails in a comfortable pub setting.

The third floor burned down in 1923 but the building continued to run as a bar serving the locals.

The tavern changed hands over time but has always been a place where friends could get together for drinks.
